Just like how Donald Trump rolled up in the White House and made it his mission to undo President Obama era policies, Americans are expecting President #JoeBiden and First Lady Jill Biden to clap back and flex that same muscle.
The White House’s Famous Rose Garden is the subject of a new petition that has garnered more than 40,000 signatures from people calling for Jill Biden and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, to undo changes made to it by the previous First Lady, Melania Trump.
The petition, which was published on change.org, is asking the pair to restore changes made to the garden by Melania Trump that she unveiled in August last year, according to Business Insider.
The garden has frequently been used by presidents including Trump and Biden to make addresses and speeches. It was also the site of a notorious super-spreader event last year where multiple members of Trump’s administration appeared to become infected with the coronavirus.
The language in the petition reads: “In 2019, Melania Trump had the cherry trees, a gift from Japan, removed as well as the rest of the foliage and replaced with a boring tribute to herself.”
It continues, “Jackie’s legacy was ripped away from Americans who remembered all that the Kennedy’s meant to us. We want Jill Biden and Doug Emhoff to take this on and restore the Rose Garden to Jackie’s original design.”
For historical context, beloved First Lady Jackie Kennedy oversaw a major renovation of the White House Rose Garden, which was finished in 1962. Melania Trump introduced significant changes to the garden’s design in August last year.
It wouldn’t be out of Jill Biden’s jurisdiction to do so but we’ll have to see if this a high priority for the First Lady. We’ll keep you posted.
